Masa Israel Teaching Fellows works in partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Education to place fellows in schools and communities located in socio-economic ‘periphery cities’ of Israel. These placements are made based on the needs and capacity of the city.

The socio-economic periphery cities of Israel are communities that stray from the social or economic trends of the country. Created to bridge the gaps in Israel’s public education system, Fellows bring their knowledge of native English to the public school classroom. The MITF cities that you can live in represent the wide range of histories and cultures that call Israel home.

Who will my students be? Who will I work with at school?

Fellows typically work with students between the ages of 7-13 years old in different capacities throughout the 10 months of the fellowship. There are 1-2 fellows per campus, each fellow will be paired with a host-teacher who will be their point of communication and connection in the schools themselves.

A Fellow typically takes 3-5 students outside of specified class time to work with them on their writing, grammar, and pronunciation. Another fellow might tutor students individually during the class’ English lesson. Fellows receive pedagogical support throughout the year to help with the fellows’ experience teaching in periphery cities.

Testimonials

“I’ve been lucky enough to form friendships with some teachers at my school. You see that winter coat over there? I got that from one of my teachers because I didn’t have a winter coat, I did not expect Jerusalem to be this cold! These relationships have made this whole experience of being in Israel so enjoyable”Shayna, MITF Jerusalem Fellow, 2020-21
