Over the past few years, Tel Aviv has greatly increased the number of cafes around the city. Many can be found on bustling, noisy streets, as well as on quieter side streets. Below, I gathered some of the best cafes (in my humble opinion) in Tel Aviv that are great to either work from or meet with friends.

F.Y.I: If you’re looking to drink a cappuccino, most Israelis will only know what you’re referring to if you call it a “hafuch” (הָפוּך), which actually means upside down… It took me a while to understand, so I hope this helps.

Our Picks for the Top 7 Cafes in Tel Aviv

P.O.C. – 48 Kfar Gila’adi, Florentin, Tel-Aviv

I am starting my list with a quintessentially Florentin neighborhood cafe, P.O.C. It is always bustling with its eclectic mix of Tel Avivians. The coffee is excellent, and they also serve delicious baked goods that you can drink and snack on inside on comfy sofas or on stools and benches surrounding the cafe on the street.

Buti & Co – Dizengoff Square 4, Tel Aviv, Israel

This Tel Aviv cafe is sandwiched between an ice cream shop and the popular La Shuk restaurant on Dizengoff Square. Buti, too is always brimming with people as it serves up great coffee and already pre-brewed sugar-free iced tea. Its salads and pretzel bun sandwiches are also great to nosh on as you people-watch from the seating area outside the cafe or the square itself.

Basma – Louis Pasteur 5, Jaffa, Israel

Basma in Arabic means “smile,” and the cafe was established in memory of the owner’s grandmother. As a young girl, she was known to have a captivating smile as she watched her father grind coffee beans at the Jaffa port in the early 1900s.

The cafe sits in Jaffa and is a great option if you’re looking for traditional Turkish coffee served in traditional, gold-colored cups. In Israel, they actually call it black coffee (קפה שחור). They also serve delicious breakfasts and knaffe! This place is a great spot to bring your friends and family for a different experience of the city.

We Like You Too – Sderot Ben Zion 31 & Sderot Ben Gurion 42, Tel Aviv, Israel

Nothing is more Tel Aviv-y than coffee kiosks located on central boulevards. We Like You Too on Dizengoff/Ben Gurion and on Habima are two prime locations serving up the locals. It’s a convenient option for a quick pick-me-up as you’re on the go or to enjoy and people-watch as you sit on one of the boulevards.

Coffee 51 – Ahad Ha’Am St 51, Tel Aviv-Yafo

Right off Rothschild Boulevard, this cafe is a great option to work from. Its setting is green and might even make you feel like you’re in a small garden… Their coffee is tasty, and it has a relaxed vibe. Also, if you want to enjoy their coffee at home in the morning, you can buy them grounded!

Mae – Montefiore St 3 & Shlomo Ibn Gabirol St 98, Tel Aviv-Yafo

Mae is also available in two different locations in the city and sells ground coffee for the house. It’s honestly, just great coffee. The one on Montefiori is a nice option if you’d like to work or hang out there, while the one on Ibn Gvirol is less comfortable and spacious but great for coffee on the go.

Milk Bakery – Beit Eshel St 5, Tel Aviv-Yafo

I am finishing my list with Milk Bakery. You cannot enter this bakery just for coffee without wanting to treat yourself to something sweet. The smell is incredible – so when in Jaffa, treat yourself to more than just a coffee. 🙂
