Safety is our top priority. All Masa volunteer housing includes accessible safe rooms, we provide comprehensive insurance, and our Chief Security Officer Amir Keinan provides 24/7 security updates. Our staff monitors the situation continuously and adjusts programming as needed.

The program costs $400 USD, and all participants receive a $3,150 Masa Grant, making this one of the most affordable volunteer trips to Israel available. This cost includes housing, insurance, organized volunteering, transportation to volunteer sites, educational programming, and leadership certification. Flights are not included.

Participants must be between 18-40 years old. You must also have a valid passport, basic English proficiency, and identify as Jewish.

No Hebrew language skills are required. All programming, volunteer training, and staff communication is conducted in English. However, you'll naturally pick up some Hebrew during your 6 weeks immersed in Israeli communities.

Volunteer placements vary based on your location and interests, but typically include: supporting displaced families and children, agricultural work in affected communities, training with emergency medical services (MDA), community rebuilding projects, tutoring and education support, and working on IDF bases. You'll volunteer 1-2 times per week with flexibility for personal exploration.

Yes! You can select from seven accommodation options: Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Be'er Sheva, Netanya, Eilat, or Sderot. Each location offers different volunteer opportunities and experiences. Some specialized tracks (like MDA paramedic training or Kibbutz Nahal Oz rebuilding) are location-specific.

Beyond hands-on volunteer work, your 6-week experience includes: housing with safe rooms, comprehensive medical insurance, 24/7 staff support and security updates, leadership workshops and certification, educational seminars with Israeli leaders, cultural and social events, organized group trips, transportation to volunteer sites outside your base city, and Shabbat experiences.

Unlike general volunteer tourism, you'll work directly with Israeli organizations addressing real-time challenges. Multiple cohorts run from December through Summer 2027, with start dates typically in December, January, February, May, June, and July. Specific dates are available after you begin the application process.

No, participating in Masa Volunteers does not prevent future Masa participation. However, grants for future programs will be modified accordingly based on previous Masa funding received.

For a 6 or 8-week volunteer program in Israel, pack comfortable closed-toe shoes for volunteer work, modest clothing for religious sites, layers for varying climates (Israel can be hot in summer, cooler in winter), sunscreen and hat, power adapters (Israel uses Type C/H outlets), any prescription medications, photocopies of your passport, and clothes appropriate for both volunteer work and leisure activities. Masa provides detailed packing lists upon acceptance, including specific items needed for your chosen volunteer track.

Some volunteers transition into longer Masa programs (4-12 months), apply for internships with organizations they volunteered with, or simply spend 1-2 additional weeks touring Israel independently.

No previous volunteer experience is required for Masa's 6-week program. All volunteers receive comprehensive training specific to their placement before beginning work.
