Activities: 

  • Create a list of words.  Brainstorm with the students what they know about the environment and together build a vocabulary you want to use for this unit.  Locate pictures to illustrate the words.

Have the students alphabetize your word list or part of the list.  They can do this on their own, in pairs or in small groups.  

  • Invite students to practice the words using a Quizlet set.  In order to create a set, go to the website: quizlet.com and set up a free account.  Make a “new set” by adding the vocabulary words from your list.  You can find Hebrew translations, pictures and/or definitions for matching purposes, depending on the students’ language levels.  Once you’ve created the set, simply copy the link and send it to the students (and/or their parents).  When they open the link, they will find a variety of games and study activities online to help them learn the words.  If you aren’t familiar with Quizlet, try a ready-made one to see all the options.

  • For 4th graders use the simplest words: tree, wind, air, earth, ground, nature, water, sun, recycle, energy.
  • For 5th grade you may use at least 15 words and for 6th grade between 20-25.
