Learning Focus: Vocabulary (45 min)
Activities:
- List of words: apple, honey, fish, pomegranate, round, sweet, dip, hear/listen, do/make, horn, year, bee, Fall/Autumn (you can add more words or use different vocabulary for different grade levels).
- Create flashcards with the students – one for each word and one with a picture of each word. Depending on the level of the students, you can pre-print the words or have the students write them. Students can cut out pre-printed graphics or they can draw the images themselves. Cards can be used in a variety of ways such as memory games, matching games, alphabetizing the cards, etc.
- Practice games and worksheets (questions, crosswords, matching, fill-in the blank, etc.). Here are some examples…
- Listening (20-30 min) to a holiday song (by the Fountainheads) and demonstrating what they understand from the vocabulary used in it. You can print out the lyrics (or parts of them) and have students highlight new vocabulary words, practice pronouncing the words, identify rhymes (advanced), etc.
