Activities:
- Creating a “Shanah Tovah” Card
Talk to the students about the custom of giving holiday cards to friends and family. Why do you give cards? Did you give cards to people last year? Did you get any cards? What kinds of words do you put on the cards? What kinds of pictures can you add to the cards? Offer some examples (a few are listed below).
Sample Blessings/Greetings:
1) “I hope you have good health, happiness, and peace – today and all through the year!”
2) “I wish you peace, happiness, and success. Happy Rosh Hashanah!”
3) “I am thinking about you and hope you have a sweet new year!”
4) “Have a happy and healthy New Year!”
5) “May this New Year be filled with health and happiness, and sweet moments for you and your family.”
6) “May this New Year be sweet, healthy and happy. Happy Rosh Hashanah!”
7) “I hope the new year gives you everything you wish for. Shanah Tovah!”
8) “May your home light up with joy. Happy Rosh Hashanah!”

Have fun creating the cards with the students. You can make them as simple or as complicated as you wish. For this activity, however, focus on the writing component. Help the students to create or copy holiday blessings/greetings. After they finish making their cards and decorating them, encourage them to present their work to the rest of the group.
