Many animals living on Earth today are endangered, which means they are at risk

of becoming extinct (dying out) on Earth. Endangered animals, for example, are

tigers, rhinoceroses, orangutans, turtles and many more. There are less and less

every year and only a few now live in the wild.

The biggest threat (איום) for animals comes from humans. People are destroying animals’ habitats, such as rainforests. They are using the trees to build houses and the lands to have more farms. As human cities take up more of the planet, it leaves less room for wild animals. The animals also have less food and places to raise their young. Many wild animals are also hunted by humans, for example for their fur (פרווה) or horns (קרניים). Others are killed by pollution and global warming, which changes the climate and affects animals’ survival rates (אחוזים).

The most endangered animal today is the

Rhinoceros. There are only 67 Javan rhinos in

the world, making this species (זן) tagged as a

critically endangered animal. Today they are

all in one park on the Indonesian island of Java.

All animals and plants are important to our planet. However, habitat destruction (הרס) is the main threat to 85 percent of all endangered species. You can help reduce (להפחית) this threat by planting trees or cleaning up beaches in your area.
