With Teach for a Semester: Powered by MITF, you’ll spend six months teaching English to Israeli students of all ages. This is your chance to make an impact on the Israeli educational system. Teach for a Semester gives you the chance to connect with Israeli students all over the country and experience Israeli co-existence firsthand while gaining valuable job experience that will last a lifetime.

    • Inside your time in the Classroom

    As an English teacher in our unique program, you will be responsible for delivering lively classes and preparing students for future exams. In addition to the support you will receive for curriculum building and classroom skills, you will be partnered with the lead English teacher in your school who will help integrate you into the role. You will spend 4 days with a min. of 25 hours in your school per week.

    Outside your time in the Classroom

    In addition to teaching you will also volunteer two – four hours/week in the organization or business of your choice. Volunteer in your career field and gain meaningful work experience.

    You will also have the opportunity to experience the best of what Israel has to offer – In addition to the warmer weather – you will get to celebrate Purim and Pesach, as well as commemorating the National Holidays together.     Bat Yam

    Located on the Mediterranean Sea only 15 minutes south of Tel Aviv, Bat Yam is Israels 12th largest city, home to 160,000 residents (30% of whom are new immigrants from former soviet countries). Off the tourist track, Bat Yam has clean beaches, fresh fruit and vegetable markets, bars and restaurants, as well as sports centers, museums, cultural centers, and libraries.

    Teach English in Be'er Sheva

    Beer Sheva

    Beer Sheva is known as the capital of the Negev Desert. Located at the northern tip of the Negev Desert, Beer Sheva is also one of Israel’s fastest growing cities. ֲ Home to Ben Gurion University, Beer Sheva has a large student population and a vibrant culture for young adults. The student community is very social and offers many opportunities for Masa Fellows to take part in student initiatives and activities. As a result, the area around the university has a college town feel, filled with entertaining nightlife. ֲ Beer Sheva also has a large immigrant population and many Bedouin communities in the nearby areas. Fellows are encouraged to volunteer with these communities to better understand local issues of coexistence.

    Rishon LeZyyon

    Rishon LeZion (The First to Zion) is the fourth largest city in Israel, with thriving metropolitan centers, parks, cultural areas, and an active nightlife. From its early days as the first settlement established by the immigrants of the First Aliyah back in the late 1800s until now, the city has rapidly grown, offering an urban lifestyle with plenty of shopping centers, restaurants and bars, parks and the beach, while still maintaining a strong sense of community.

    Teach for a Semester is a partnership of Masa Israel Journey, Israel’s Ministry of Education, and The Jewish Agency for Israel.

    Created to bridge the gaps in Israel’s public education system, the program invites talented, English-speaking college graduates to teach English in Israel as teachers’ aides. It’s a challenging, rewarding experience for our Teaching Fellows and a vital investment in Israel’s future.
