The Exploration, Leadership, and Innovation (ELI) Gap-Year Program is designed for recent high school graduates who, before beginning their college journey, want to experience university life while strengthening their academic, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills in a world-class environment. Based at Tel Aviv University (TAU), ELI offers a unique pre-college experience that fosters meaningful engagement with Jewish life, identity, and community, while immersing students in Israel’s dynamic culture and innovation ecosystem.
This once-in-a-lifetime gap-year opportunity allows students to spend a year in the heart of Tel Aviv, combining rigorous academic study with leadership development, experiential learning, and enriching extracurricular activities. ELI equips participants with a valuable skill set and perspective that will serve them throughout their college years and beyond.
The program integrates university-level academics with field trips, service-learning projects, group bonding, and other immersive experiences. Students benefit from networking and mentorship opportunities within Israel’s Startup Nation, as well as exposure to global experts across Israel’s political, cultural, media, business, and technology sectors.
Participants are required to take a minimum of four for-credit courses and to engage in specialized workshops aligned with TAU’s areas of expertise, including cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. Credits earned during the program apply toward continued studies at Tel Aviv University and may be transferable to other universities, depending on institutional policies.
