Job Description

Israel Story’s internship program is a vital part of our team’s operations.

Internship cohorts consist of 1 to 3 people, and interns participate in every stage of the production process, from pitching, researching, and reporting stories, to editing, uploading, and publicizing them. In addition to production tasks, interns are also assigned to work with our producers on various institutional tasks like answering team emails, running social media accounts, and editing our website. Israel Story prides itself on being a meritocracy, so good ideas are pursued, regardless of where they come from, and interns are encouraged to speak up, get involved, and pursue ideas about which they are passionate.

The position is based in Jerusalem, but we are also open to interns living in Tel Aviv, as long as they are willing to come to our Jerusalem offices 3 days a week. Regardless of location, however, this isn’t a full-time office job: you’ll also get to explore the country as you help us find and tell the stories of Israel’s most interesting characters.

Israel Story interns are self-starters and have the opportunity to be involved in every step of podcast production. Through the training they receive at our show, they leave the internship prepared to produce high-quality audio content, and engage in storytelling that challenges the boundaries of traditional genres. Israel Story internship alumni have gone on to hold positions at This American Life, The New York Times, Pineapple Street Media, and Harvard’s Neiman Fellowship, among others.

Positions require a 6-month commitment, which could lead to a longer-term, paid job. The position is unpaid, but transportation is covered.

Candidates with experience in audio production, storytelling, journalism, multimedia production, musical production, scoring, production logistics, and/or social media are strongly encouraged to apply.

Company Description

Israel Story is a popular documentary storytelling podcast that seeks to tell true stories in surprising ways. Through our work, we try to shine a spotlight on the small and large dramas that make up Israeli life—and also, of course, to tell really, really good stories. In creating our show, which is also known by the Hebrew title “Sipur Israeli,” we wanted to step outside of our social bubbles and explore the diversity of our own country. We had a hunch that the Israel people loved—as well as the Israel people hated—was, largely speaking, an imaginary place. We, on the other hand, wanted to tell stories of the “real” Israel: to showcase a different, more nuanced, and more diverse, cross-section of life. Since the English version of our show launched in 2014, we’ve accomplished things of which we had previously never dreamed. Today, we have a vibrant and growing team of talented producers, as well as hundreds of thousands of listeners who tune in from more than 150 countries around the world. Our internship program is a vital part of our operations. Internship cohorts consists of 1 to 3 people, and interns participate in every stage of the production process (pitching, research, reporting, editing, uploading, publicizing) as well as necessary institutional tasks like answering team emails, running social media accounts, and editing our website.
