Eating Vegan in Tel Aviv

Eating Vegan in Tel Aviv

For a country so small, Israel is known for many things. We’re the start-up nation, the land of milk and honey (and matkot), and the birthplace of Gal Gadot. But what you might not have known is that Israel is home to the most vegans per capita. Behold: the Vegan Nation.

If you’re living a vegan lifestyle, we can only assume that you’re living in Tel Aviv (totally kidding, for those of you who aren’t), which has recently been labeled the Vegan Capital of the World. So we’re here to tell you where in this capital of animal-friendly restaurants is most worth making your “best of” list.

With over 400 vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Tel Aviv, we’ve chosen the top 6 to share with you.

Best Vegan Restaurants in Tel Aviv

Anastasia

Located on Frishman Street and a ten minute walk from the beach, Anastasia is one of our favorites. An all in one restaurant, cafe, and small shop, Anastasia is part of a lifestyle choice rather than a passing fad. Aside from their delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, make sure you try their hot chocolate dessert. Trust us. You can’t eat vegan in Tel Aviv and miss this place.

Dosa Bar

Not only is this Indian food restaurant vegan, it’s also gluten-free, so there really is something for everyone. The Chef, Chen Weinstein, spent a couple of years in India learning to cook the local delicacies, and when she connected with the superfood dosa – voila! All of the dosas on the menu are filled with veggies and are completely vegan.

Alegria

The vegan specialty shop in Tel Aviv opened in 2016 and converted to fully vegan in 2017. While Alegria serves casual cafe food like salads, sandwiches, and burgers, they also sell vegan cheeses like cashew-cheddar and macadamia-dried tomato, desserts (both raw and baked), and all sorts of breads and spreads. The motto written above the shop says it all: דברים טובים קורים פה/“good things happen here”.

Meshek Barzilay

With its farm-to-table philosophy, Meshek Barzilay has been open since 2002, originally having started in Moshav Yarkona – you guessed it, a farm. Merav Barzilay, the owner, prides herself (and her restaurant) in using entirely organic ingredients and nourishing consumers from an organic and vegetarian kitchen. In 2018, they opened the Meshek Barzilay Delicatessen, a fast-casual concept that caters to the Tel Aviv vegan (and non-vegan!) on the go.

Goodness

Okay, let’s get to the burgers. Goodness has done a service to all burger lovers out there (vegan and otherwise) and managed to make a completely vegan burger taste and feel like its original. We’ve heard countless Goodness-goers rave about the texture specifically, which (and this is for those of you who have experienced the mushier version of an obviously impossible burger) actually feels like you’re biting into a burger. This Tel Aviv vegan specialty should definitely make your list.

Market

Market offers Tel Avivians a taste of home away from home. With a 100% vegan branch on Dizingoff and a touch of non-vegan on King George, Market has two locations that get packed on the daily. With warm stews, salads, grain bowls, and options to add whatever bases and toppings you want, Market is a vegan Tel Aviv must.
