Celebrate like a local: festivals during Sukkot 2012

 
Sukkot—the holiday of gathering. No matter where in the world you are, people will be by your side, celebrating in many different ways. And of course, there is no better place to celebrate Sukkot than in Israel, the best and biggest “sukkah” of them all!
 
Make this Sukkot special and exciting at the many different activities going on all over Israel. Use this time to explore the many different events that beautifully highlight Israeli culture, to celebrate like Israelis do, and to have a great time!
 
Here are a few fun and exciting events going on:
 
October 2nd | Ashdod and Netanya
Winter Shlulit Park, Netanya 2-3 October; Ben-Gurion Park, Ashdod 3-4 October

Come out to the awesome family friendly and fun Beit Hatfutstot World Sukkot Festival with entertainment stages, children’s activities and creative alongside well known Israeli artists and popular singers that will perform on the center stage. There will be a bunch of different Sukkot built representing different Jewish communities from all over the world, in a maze like arrangement boasting to be the largest of its kind in the world! Along with this there are workshops and activities like learning how to build your family tree, authentic cuisine tastings, and a chance to view the A-B-See-Do interactive art installation on the Hebrew language, and the “Family Matters” workshop inspired by artist Hanoch Piven. 
 
September 29th-October 10th | Haifa
The Haifa International Film Festival, the leading cinematic even in Israel, was founded in 1983 as the first international film festival in the country. Growing steadily in both the number of screenings and attendance, The Haifa Film Festival has earned a world-wide reputation for both the quality of its program and the friendly atmosphere.The Haifa Film Festival is held on the beautiful Mount Carmel, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The festival brings together each year an ever-growing audience of 70,000 spectators along with hundreds of Israeli and foreign professionals from the film and television industries and premiers some 170 new films (280 screenings). 300,000 people in total take part in the activities of the festival, including the outdoor events, screenings, workshops and more, and dozens of journalists from both the print and broadcast media, from Israel and abroad, cover the event.
 
30th of September - 2nd of October | Hangar Adama Har Boker 4, Mitspe Ramon

In the mood for something a bit different? Come out to the Adama dance school’s headquarters, the Hangar Adama, in the beautiful little town of Mitspe Ramon in the NegevThis event offers workshops and master classes in motion. The workshops are led by teachers and dancers from Liat Dror Nir Ben Gal Dance Company and from our guest from Prague - Company ProART. In the evenings there are performances followed by quiet dance parties into the night.
 
October 1st-5th | Masada, Ein Gedi, and Nahal Zohar
This is for the festival go-ers and music lovers. These concerts go all night long and are crazy to say the least! Getting to the desert at night on a bus filled only with fellow festival go-ers starts the night off on the right foot. The festival combines breathtaking performances from some of Israel's greatest musicians and international artists with delightful desert nights in the heart of Massada Hall, stunning sunrises over the top of the mountain, and the beautifully manicured lawns of the Botanical Gardens at Ein Gedi and the Kikar Sdom villages. The four-day festival offers a multisensory experience of music, freedom, nature and attractions and draws varied audiences from all over Israel every year. This year’s lineup includes Berry Sakharof, Balkan Beat Box, Ehud Banai and more!

The Weitzmann Institute Science Festival is a yearly fiesta of science and technology. Visitors can enjoy various competitions, workshops, interesting demonstrations, and tours. 
 
October 1-4, 2012 Netanya
Highest level concerts - International competition - International youth competition - Lectures Master classes - Excursion program - Guitars, scores, equipment, CDs – exhibition & sales, and more.
 
October 1st-4th | Acco
Probably the largest festival during Sukkot will be the 31st annual Israeli Fringe Theater Festival in Acco. The 65 shows, featuring about 300 artists from Israel and abroad, will include theater shows, street performances, cabaret shows, concerts, art fairs, exhibits and more. The festival attempts to expose the natural beauty of Acco through its outdoor shows and street plays, which will take place around the old city, historical sites and streets and the city’s port. This festival also brings together artists from various cultural backgrounds, reflecting the multicultural aspect of the city, and creates a dialogue through discussion panels and other activities.
