On July 30, people from all over the world turned on their computers and joined MASA as it took to the airwaves in its first livestream cybercast.
The two-hour web conference was intended to reach participants who would be leaving their homes in the next few weeks to attend long-term programs in Israel. More than 500 viewers – which included applicants and their families -- viewed the webcast which took a close look at the current situation in Israel and how it's affecting current and future programs in Israel.
Dr. Elan Ezrachi, Director General of the MASA company, reassured viewers that the programs are continuing and that the Program Organizers, together with MASA, are keeping a watchful eye on developments and will keep participants and the families updated as to how the situation may affect programs scheduled to open in the fall. Lending support to his words were Program Organizers themselves-- including B'nei Akiva, Habonim Dror, HUC, The Institute of Technology in Holon and Otzma. – and participants who are now in Israel. Appearing throughout the broadcast, they shared with viewers what the programs are doing to keep them safe and keep the parents informed, and how being here is making a difference in their lives and the lives of the people they meet here.
Viewers e-mailed, phoned or faxed questions before and during the broadcast. MASA staffers who participated in the broadcast and addressed their concerns in a panel discussion..
The broadcast included addresses by former IDF Spokesman Nahman Shai and Israel Government Secretary Yisrael Maimon, plus live appearance by JAFI Chairman Zeev Bielski and Government Spokesman Eli Yerushalmi.
