MASA MAP's Streams in Judaism Shabbaton

By Erin Kopelow

The Streams in Judaism Shabbaton was for many a first glimpse into the diversity of Jewish practice today.  The weekend was spent with a series of small workshops and larger lectures that explored the complexity of Jewish practice and belief, as well as the collective that holds us all together under one religious affiliation.

The weekend concluded with a panel presentation and discussion with representatives from the Reform, Reconstructionist, Conservative and Orthodox movements, which resulted in much discussion and debate as well as a little tension as participants presented heated questions and comments to the speakers and fellow MASA participants.

With the purpose of initiating discussion among members of different movements within Judaism, MASA MAP Director Avi Steinberg urged MASA participants to continue their exploration of the topics discussed throughout the weekend and supported the continued interaction between the MASA participants present via the MASA Streams in Judaism Shabbaton Facebook group page.
