Top Ten Ways to Save Money

10) Walk.  Sounds lame but trust me those bus and taxi fares add up. 10b) If you’re walking invest in a map.  City planning is more of an abstract concept than reality in Israel.

9) If you can’t walk take the bus.  It’s cheaper.  On long distances rides buy a return ticket.  If you’re under 18 ask if your city’s buses have a youth fare ticket (it’s 50% the regular fare).

8) In taxis ask for the meter.  Saves the infuriating process of bargaining and it usually winds up being cheaper than the negotiated price anyway.

7) Shop in the shook for fresh fruits and veggies and buy only what you’ll need for a few days.  You will eat better quality food and be less likely to buy too much.  For other items shop in large bulk discount stores such as Super Sol Deal or Mega.

6) Instead of eating out, cook with your roommates and friends

5) Get invited to Shabbat meals!

4)  When there is any kind of money exchange about to take place, ask for a discount.  Trust me, most people, from shoe salesmen to phone companies, will take at least 10% off just for asking.

3) Drink tap water (it’s fine!) But if you buy water buy it in bulk.  It’s heavy but so worth it.

2) Have people call you especially if they are overseas.

1) Participate in MAP events, you get a social life for 35 NIS or less!!!
