Develop your palette with the Culinary Arts track, designed to provide participants with a foundation for careers in the cooking and food industries. Learn cooking techniques at the professional chef level, see the ins and outs of restaurant management and ownership, and master the local flavors of Israel’s unique culinary culture.
Program Description: Participants will be fully integrated in the Year Course, the 9-month program of formal and informal education for recent high school graduates who spend a dynamic year living, volunteering and studying in Israel.
Placements can include: Jerusalem, community volunteering experiences near Tel Aviv, work in soup kitchens and restaurants, army, navy, youth aliya village, safari, kibbutz and more. Participants can earn up to a year's worth of college credit through the American Jewish University in Los Angeles, CA, while building leadership skills and developing and strengthening their relationship with the country’s land and people.
Core contents of the program: Participants will learn cooking techniques, immersion into Israeli society, Hebrew Ulpan, volunteer opportunities in restaurants and soup kitchens, academic studies.
What is included? Internships with up-and-coming Israeli chefs, room and board, academic component fully accredited through the American Jewish University in Los Angeles, CA (earn a year's worth of college credit), round-trip international airfare, tiyulim, volunteer opportunities, travel, medical insurance, pre-departure orientation program. Extras: Participants will study cultural influences on food across the Middle East, meet the owners and chefs of Israel’s top restaurants, and enjoy Israel’s finest cuisine.
