  Tamarim - The Netzer Year

Shnat Netzer is a unique 10-month leadership training program for young adults in Israel which develops the skills and knowledge necessary for them to become madrichim (leaders) in the movement. It facilitates personal development, offers opportunities to study Jewish and Zionist ideals, and provides a structured environment for learning and experiencing Netzer’s principles.

If you have been involved with a Netzer branch or if you have grown up in a Reform/Progressive Jewish community and are wondering where to go from here, this is the natural way to continue that involvement. It’s a chance to acquire a whole new range of skills and abilities and many wonderful memories.

Core contents of the program
Nativ 1: Etgar or Machon (participants choose between one of these 4 ½-month programs). Etgar (Challenge) is Netzer Olami’s intensive Zionist educational program. Participants live in an apartment in Jerusalem volunteering, studying and living as one big community together. Machon is a Jewish Agency-sponsored leadership training program. It includes studies ranging from Hebrew to Judaism, Zionism and Israeli History.

Nativ 2: Kibbutz or Shnat B’Ir (Shnat in the city) Kibbutz Lotan and Yahel are the two Reform Kibbutzim in Israel. Participants will live and work for six-weeks on one of the Kibbutzim which are both located in the southern Negev desert. Shnat B’Ir is one of Netzer Olami’s newest and most exciting programs. Participants will live and work for six-weeks in a small city in the North of Israel where they will  volunteer in exciting and worthwhile placements around their community.

Nativ 3: Kibbutz, Shnat B’Ir (Kibbutz and Shnat B’Ir are the same as above) or Shvil Yisrael (Israel Trail). Shvil Yisrael is the trans-Israel hiking route. Participants will hike the route while visiting places of interest along the way and sleeping in and experiencing the varied landscape of Israel.

Nativ 4: For the last six-week program option, participants will have the opportunity

to tailor make an option with Netzer Olami which suits their needs and interests.

Etgar or Machon (participants choose between one of these 4 ½-month programs).
