The Ginsburg-Ingerman Overseas Student Program (OSP) at Ben-Gurion University offers a semester or a year of academic credit for undergraduate and recent college graduates. Students study Hebrew language, in addition to choosing from a variety of English-taught courses in Jewish and Israel studies, political science, history, anthropology, Arabic, arts and literature, global health, and ecology.
Core contents of the program: Academic Studies: Courses in the OSP are taught in English by faculty of Ben-Gurion University. Students who are fluent in Hebrew may also register for regular university courses with the Israeli student body. The university hosts visiting professors who often teach in English. OSP students are invited to attend their classes.
Volunteer Service: A wide range of volunteer opportunities are available. Our staff works with each individual student to find a project that meets your interests or needs. Students have volunteered previously at the following sites: Beer-Sheva government offices, Beer-Sheva District Court, The Israeli Ministry of Housing, Soroka University Medical Center, Local art institute, Newspapers and media organizations, Engineering and architecture firms, Local volunteer organizations that work with children, at-risk youth, Bedouin communities, family centers, high schools, etc.
What does it include? One 6-week ulpan, tuition, housing, field trips and activities, cultural programs, lecturers and medical insurance.
Extras: Unique among Israeli study abroad programs, you are placed with Israeli roommates, providing the opportunity to foster lasting friendships and become immersed in the “real” Israel. You are encouraged to take advantage of the diverse array of opportunities outside of formal classes, which will enhance and enrich your time on the program. A wide range of lectures, trips, hikes, cultural and sporting events are available. From mountain climbing to museum-hopping to Mediterranean belly-dancing, there is something to suit every student and every interest.
