Frequently asked questions about MASA's online application

1. Can I use an older version of the MASA application for the coming year?

No, only the online forms will be acceptable for 2010-11 MASA programs.

2. Why is MASA using online application forms?

The forms are specifically designed to be completed online, not to be downloaded as in the past.  This enables MASA to enter the information quickly, track accurately and provide feedback much more efficiently.

3. Can I download the online application forms?

As mentioned in the previous response, the online application process is meant to make MASA's service to you and to the Programs more efficient.  MASA will only accept forms that are submitted online.

4. I TRIED  FILLING OUT THE APPLICATION ONLINE, AND WHEN ASKED FOR EMAIL

ADDRESS, THE EMAIL INVALID POPS UP EVEN THOUGH THE EMAIL ADDRESS IS

    DEFINITELY VALID? WHY IS THAT?

Try turning off the caps lock when you enter your information.

5. Why do I have to still print out and mail the .pdf file you send?

MASA is funded by the Government of Israel and the Jewish Agency for Israel, and it must provide them with an accurate accounting of how grants and scholarships are disbursed in accordance with their guidelines.  Your signed and printed application indicates your legal and official acceptance of MASA's policies and guidelines and allows MASA to process your grant application.

6. Why must I send the application to the Program Organizer?

Even though may be eligible for MASA funding, you still have to be a participant in a recognized MASA program to receive MASA funding.  If you meet the program's eligibility requirements, it is up to the Program Organizer to tell MASA that you are accepted.

7. Who is my Program Organizer?

The Program Organizer is the organization that is responsible for your program (e.g. Tel Aviv University is the Program Organizer, M.A. in Middle-Eastern Studies is the Program)  The contact information appears on the program's page on the MASA web site and in the MASA program catalog.

8.  Who gets to see my information?

MASA wants to be sure that the information you send us is kept secure.  The information is encrypted and stored in a secure server.  Basic information (name and contact information) is accessible to appropriate MASA staff and Program Organizers.  Sensitive personal and financial information is accessible only to the Grants and Scholarship committees.

9.  How long until I hear about my funding from MASA?

When you complete the online application you are entered in MASA's information base. The approval time, however, depends on when the Program Organizer informs MASA that you have been approved for the program.   Once MASA receives that information from the Program Organizer, it should take about 45 days until you receive official notification regarding you funding.

10. Why will the form not allow me to enter my income in the income fields?

All of the income fields are numeric fields which means they accept NUMBERS ONLY.
The fields will not accept decimals, commas or dollar/euro/pound symbols. Therefore if

your income, for example, is $63,139.38 , you must enter it as "63139" (without the

quotation marks). Please round your income up or down and do not enter any decimals
      or
cents, only whole numbers without decimals.

11.  What happens if I entered the wrong information and only find out after I've submitted the application?

If you have any changes that need to be made, please contact the Program Organizer.

12.  What if can't I find my program on the drop-down menu of programs?

The online system lists all the programs that have signed with MASA to date and is updated regularly.  If you do not see your program on the list, please contact the Program Organizer directly.  (You can find the contact information in the program catalog or the program page on the MASA web site).
