40 Years of the Reunification of the City

May 30th-31 2008, Yehuda Guest House, Jerusalem
Language: English, Hebrew
Cost: NIS 30 per participants

Forty years have passed since the reunification of Jerusalem during the Six Day War, a significant event not only in the life of the city, but in the history of Israel and the world. Jerusalem has gone through many changes since then, and is still a center of Jewish and world interest. The Shabbaton will examine Jerusalem's place as a component in the identity of the Jewish people. Through tours and workshops dealing with physical, geographic, demographic, social and cultural changes in the city, we will look into its past, present and future and its affect on us, as part of the Jewish world.

Goals
- Examination of Jerusalem's status as a component in the identity of the Jewish People.
- Personal, academic and active introduction to Jerusalem and its uniqueness.
- Introduction to the geo-political background of the unification of Jerusalem.
- Examination of affects of the reunification of the city from various viewpoints.
- Understanding the demographic and geographic aspects of Jerusalem and their affect on its future.
- Encouragement of a personal connection to Jerusalem.
