Overview

Desert Sports Challenge is a unique, five month program that combines hands on experience of sports activities in the desert, studying Hebrew, touring Israel and getting to know more about Israeli culture.

Why this Program?
The course takes place in the setting of Nitzana Educational / Ecological Community which is located in the beautiful Negev desert. Trained professionals will provide several hours of theoretical or hands-on instruction each day in activities such as; rappelling, jeeping, diving, navigation, mountain biking, swimming and running. There will be daily physical exercises and at the end of each week, a chance will be given to utilize all that you have learned. Once a month, competitions will be held.

Activities / Excursions
You will receive three mornings a week of Hebrew ulpan instruction (240 hours over the five month program), given by The Ministry of Education.

During the evenings you will learn about Israeli culture, dance and pottery as well as opportunities to meet with IDF soldiers and other local Israelis.

Trips will be taken to Jerusalem, Eilat, Masada and the Galilee. Transportation and lodging is included.

Every other week you will have the weekend free, to enable you to travel around Israel (not included in program cost). Otherwise if you want to stay at Nitzana, your accommodations and meals are still provided.

Facilities / Lodging / Meals
Nice two bedroom apartments will accommodate four people. All meals are provided along with use of the pool, gym, computer room and laundry facilities.

Nitzana is an educational community which hosts thousands of Israeli youth every year. They come to learn about the desert, solar energy and recycling.  Living within our community are approximately fifteen families, fifteen young Israeli national service volunteers and participants from other MASA programs.

Airfare to Israel is not included and access to shops and restaurants on a daily basis is not possible since our location is remote.
