"Adam Resurrected"
A play by Alexander Chervinsky, based on the novel by Yoram Kaniuk.
Directed by Yevgeny Arye

Adam Stein, the main character in Adam Resurrected is a talented clown and musician at a concentration camp where he works as the camp commander’s personal entertainment in-charge and at the same time as the dog of an SS officer, Commandant Klein. Klein likes Adam Stein very much, since deep in his heart, he was a considerate man looking after “his” Jews so they would not suffer too much. As the Jews walk down their final path, with a bar of soap in hand, clown Adam Stein, the death clown, always stood at the entrance to the gas chambers, calming them. He even accompanied his wife on her final path.
Gesher Theatre is presenting the issue of absurd Holocaust in a colorful, serious and cynical review. Here, a human being may even be God; it is all his own responsibility, whether to be a beast suffering like a dog, or an old Jew who scatters the ashes of his family members all over his head. All is possible, as it was at that period when the common definitions of justice, understanding and reason all faded away in the smoke billowing above the crematoriums.
