Why are MASA programs different from the others?

MASA works with over 160 long term programs in Israel – yeshivot, universities, community service programs, kibbutz programs and more – for students from around the world. And while no two programs are alike, all MASA-affiliated programs are required to comply with MASA's educational standards outlined  by MASA.  Below are some of the guidelines for MASA-affiliated programs.

  1. MASA encourages the expression of a broad spectrum of interpretations, orientations and opinions in its affiliated programs which reflect the multiple facets of Judaism, provided they are based on Jewish and Zionist principles and values.
  2. Programs seeking recognition in the framework of the project are structured around a core curriculum that reflects the Organizer's vision, ideology and objectives and the characteristics of the target populations at which the program is aimed.
  3. Beyond the core curriculum, MASA requires that each program include a supplementary program which will constitute an integral part of the Long Term Program.  The supplementary program will cover the following educational areas:

§         Strengthening Jewish identity

§         History of Zionism and the State of Israel

§         Familiarization with the Land of Israel

§         Learning Hebrew

§         Volunteering in Israeli society

§         Encounters with Israeli peers

§         Exposure to Israeli culture

§         Developing community leadership skills

  1. MASA encourages Organizers to create varied programs that meet the needs of various communities, and to be sensitive to changing conditions.
  2. Every Organizer that wants its program participants to be eligible to submit applications for MASA funding must obtain recognition for its programs according to the process specified in the Standards and Regulations Guidebook which is given to all  Program Organizers.

All MASA-affiliated long-term programs are held to the highest professional standards and follow the educational and security guidelines set by the Jewish Agency.
